Duties, Tasks, and Deeds

It’s been a while since I posted on here.

It’s been a few months since I played any online games since I decided I didn’t really want to keep playing FFXIV. I got a bit fed up with the FC I was in, and I was a bit worried the game was too much for my laptop to effectively handle. Unfortunately, a few days before my house was going to be autodemolished, SE suspended autodemo again, so for now my character’s stuck on Adamantoise.

I had rolled an alt using an old RP OC from 15 years or so, got her through the initial ARR story and a little bit into the 2.x MSQ, realized I probably didn’t want to deal with this, even if my reasoning for starting this alt was to learn XIV Red Mage for real, so I cancelled my sub and went back to doomscrolling stuff after work.

The year rolled over, my W2s came in, so I did my taxes: turns out I was getting every cent I paid to Georgia last year back, so I can finally get my box of stuff up here. I’ll be able to get my desktop back up and running as my primary rig soon enough, not to mention have a few more pennies each month from not having to pay the storage fees, so I reactivated my main FFXI account.

The first thing I did was finish augmenting my Epeolatry: turns out I’d had more gil remaining than I expected. R15 Epeo is fun! I used my Rune Fencer to get a couple of items I’d been needing for a while: Kurys Gloves for its enmity set, and a Samnuha Coat from Sinister Reign for death resist build.
I eventually swapped over to Red Mage and spammed Sinister Reign to get a few more max augs items: Leyline Gloves for Fast Cast, and a Malevolence for Paladin and Thief cleaving. I tried to keep going to get a max augs Rubicundity to use on Red Mage, but considering how infrequent I use Drain and Aspir, it’s something to go back to at some point.
That left me with what to do next after taking a few days’ break. Turns out I was closer to finishing Assaults than I thought I was, so back to that grind I went.
I ended up with one solitary Assault left to complete: Lost and Found. I tried it thrice on my own before asking for help from LS mates. I got it finished as a trio, then immediately headed to Salaheem’s Sentinels to finally rank up and begin a Mythic Weapon quest.
I have a few jobs to choose from for this: Warrior, Red Mage, Thief, Paladin, Dark Knight, Ninja, Blue Mage, and Corsair. Of those, I know some are more useful than others, but of those jobs, the one I play the most, not to mention has been my main since I started in February 2004, is Red Mage, so I grabbed the Vorpal Sword Ghanraam has been holding onto for 15ish years in case I would be able to do this from him, and officially started the Murgleis quest tonight.

Yesterday, I took the time to go take out the ToAU beastman leaders as I already had the titles for Salvage and Einherjar, so I was able to immediately complete An Imperial Heist upon flagging the quest. I was sent to Nashmau after, where I flagged Duties, Tasks, and Deeds, the very aptly named meat of the Mythic process.

For my own benefit, here is the path I must take to have the weapon that will likely replace Excalibur as my main hand lockstyle on Red Mage.

Duties, Tasks, and Deeds:
– 30,000 Alexandrite
– 150,000 Nyzul Isle tokens
– 100,000 Ampoules of Therion Ichor (Einhehjar)
– Repeat all 50 Assaults

Forging a New Myth:
– Collect Tinnin’s Fang, Sarameya’s Hide, and Tyger’s Tail – I already have Tinnin’s Fang and Sarameya’s Hide, so I just have to do the Tyger ZNM route.

Trials of the Magians:
– Trial 1015: 200 Death Blossoms vs. Amorphs
– Trial 1016: 200 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Plantoids
– Trial 1834: 300 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Beasts
– Trial 1835: 300 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Arcana
– Trial 2257: 400 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Aquans
– Trial 2668: 3 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Sarameya
– Trial 3101: 3 Death Blossom killing blows vs. Long-Armed Chariot
– Trial 3564: Collect 3 Mulcibar’s Scoria
Of these, only truly annoying will be Trial 2668. I do have mules, so I could make one pop, mail the pop item to a mule and repeat that twice.
I inquired with my linkshell as to the difficulty of Salvage in the modern game, and I was told it’s quite easy, so the LAC kills should be doable.
The AH or Ambuscade will be my source of Mulcibar’s Scoria.

After all this is done, I need to acquire 10,300 Beitetsu: 300 for the initial item level upgrade, and another 10,000 to Afterglow the weapon. Then once the weapon is Afterglow at i119 III, the augmentation process begins: I’ll need 596 S. Astral Detritus for it to be R15.

At that point, I finally will have it finished. While I am definitely still missing a few items for Red Mage, I feel Murgleis is something every career Red Mage owes themselves to make if they are able. Sure it’s a fancy glowy magic accuracy weapon with a less-than-impressive weapon skill attached, but it will be my glowy weapon.

Sure, I made Excalibur because I’d always wanted one, and I do enjoy messing with it from time to time, but I know for a fact in every endgame event I do I’ll use Murgleis for something, even if it’s to use Convert as an Elixir.

For the time being until this weapon is “complete” at its Level 75 version, I’ll be using the Fencing Degen, Red Mage’s Artifact Weapon, as my main hand lockstyle for Red Mage.
